ASPiH Masterclasses
In keeping with previous years, ASPiH will be offering five pre-conference Masterclasses, which will take place via Zoom on Monday 8th November from 10:00-16:00. The cost to attend is £75 per Masterclass, however if you book to attend as part of your conference package you will receive a 10% discount off the total price.
Masterclasses are as follows:
Transformative Simulation: understand, define, and design.
Faculty: Sharon Weldon, Reader in Nursing Research and Education and Andy Buttery, Regional Simulation & Human Factors Project Lead
The aim of this workshop is to introduce participants to the emerging field of Transformative Simulation (TS). That is, simulation as a tool to transform healthcare, rather than educate students and professionals. Drawing on contemporary uses of simulation internationally for transformative purposes, the facilitators will describe five published categories of TS, engage in discussion regarding their purposes and key differences to SBE, before providing participants with an opportunity to walk through the key design considerations of a specific TS category which will be fed back to the group for a bringing together of Transformative Simulation approaches and opportunities.

Simulation and human factors ergonomics: improving systems
Faculty: Dr Michael Moneypenny, Consultant Anaesthetist and ASPiH President
This masterclass will consist of some short didactic sessions followed by groupwork.
Learning objectives:
By the end of the workshop participants will:
1. Be able to define human factors ergonomics (HFE)
2. Be able to explain the development of HFE and its integration with healthcare
3. Appreciate the breadth of HFE
4. Understand how simulation can be used as a tool within HFE
5. Be able to use appropriate HFE tools such as bow tie analysis, influence diagrams, failure mode and effects analysis, and hierarchical task analysis to help analyse clinical areas of interest
6. Design a project which will use simulation and a HFE tool to improve safety/quality/efficiency
Suggested Audience: Novice
Simulated placements: Developing effective undergraduate placements
Faculty: Dr Isabel Ryder, Associate Head, Programmes, Dr Deborah Thackray, Principal Teaching Fellow and Charles Everard, Clinical Skills/Technical Learning Resources Manager
This masterclass brings together a series of simulated placement case studies that utilised simulation to enhance, replace and remotely connect clinical practice for a range of disciplines. Each case study will be visually demonstrated, revealing its strengths and weaknesses and potential going forward. There will also be an opportunity to engage with and seek answers from representatives of Health education England and the professional bodies in regards to the future of simulated practice.
Establishing an effective in situ programme
Faculty: David Wright and Andrew Blackmore, Hull Institute of Learning and Simulation
In situ simulation is increasingly recognised as offering many potential advantages. These include the benefits of team training, ease and equality of access, integration into routine working practices and identification of latent errors. However, establishing and sustaining an in situ programme poses particular challenges. We aim to provide a framework for the process from planning in situ scenarios and common pitfalls to effective strategies for establishing a programme in your organisation.
Learning objectives:
By the end of the masterclass participants will:
· Understand the rationale and scope of in situ simulation
· Recognise the planning and logistical requirements of in situ simulation
· Plan a mock in situ simulation from start to finish
· Explore the role of situ simulation in improving quality and safety

Send in the Mind
The Simulation - Mental Health synergy
Faculty: Chris Attoe, Head of Research & Development, Dr Gregoire Billon, Clinical Lead and Consultant Childe and Adolescent Psychiatrist , Dr Camilla Tooley, Senior Simulation Tutor and Anita Bignell, Senior Nurse Tutor.
Psychiatry pushes the boundaries of simulation design (Goldfarb, 2013). Maudsley Simulation centre has explored this frontier since 2015, creating a unique improvement synergy bringing SBE and mental health together. This workshop will invite you to explore essential issues of simulation design, and the learning gained through our mental health focus.

Refund Policy
Notification of cancellation must be made in writing to the ASPiH 2021 Manager to events@aspih.org.uk
Cancellations:
Notice of cancellation should be made in writing to events@aspih.org.uk Cancellation received by 18th October 2021 will have received a refund minus 20% for administration costs. For cancellations received after this date there will be no refund and if payment has not been received delegates will still be liable for the full delegate fee, this will also apply to delegates registered after 18th October 2021.
Substitute delegates are welcome.

When you book one of our virtual events we collect personal information about you such as name, address, email, phone, credit card information any other information required.
Our Privacy Policy details how we use your data, please read this before continuing.
Delegates
We may share information with third parties such as a limited delegate list with exhibitors or your finance department for invoicing. If required, we will also share your attendance signature with the relevant CPD authority.
Speakers
Information such as your name, job title, organisation, photo and biography may be shared publicly on the website and social media, and, to delegates within the programme. Personal information as well as your presentation may also be shared with our AV company.
Where you provide us with personal information about someone else
If you provide us with someone else’s personal information by registering them as a delegate or include co-authors in your abstract, you should only do so if you have their authority or consent to do so. You should also take reasonable steps to inform them of the information set out in the Privacy Policies.
Conference Platform & Programme

Photographs
